The civic body issued notices to 27 construction sites across the city for not removing mosquito breeding sites. Health department officials of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) levied administrative charges worth Rs 80,500.These sites include six construction sites in Gota, two each in Sarkhej and Chandkheda and three each in Sabarmati and Navrangpura, among others.
As part of further action, the authorities of these construction sites will have to get indoor residual spraying (IRS) done. In the first week of October till Saturday , city registered 397 cases of vector-borne diseases, mainly driven by malaria, falciparum malaria and dengue. It may be worthy to note that the malaria outbreak is at an eight-year high.
“The civic body has been conducting constant checks to control mosquito breeding.Over 20,000 serum samples have been sent for testing. Around 500 CDs were distributed at various garba venues for spreading awareness,“ said an AMC official.
