Chansad, the village where late Pramukh Swami Maharaj was born, is set to become a Smart Village. The village had made the cut for the status due to its good civic amenities during a survey done over the last six months.

The village will soon have facilities like CCTV surveillance, WiFi and even a website for the village. The plans were discussed by the administration even with the newly anointed spiritual head of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, Mahant Swami.

Taluka development officer of the Padra taluka, under which the Chansad village falls, Ninad Jani said that the work is expected to begin in a couple of months. Jani, who is himself from BAPS Swaminarayan sect, said that the project was in the pipeline since quite some time, but got highlighted during the recent visit by Mahant Swami. “We discussed it with him to get his blessings for it,“ said Jani.

Jani said that the project was expected to take off in about a couple of months. “Various agencies will be contributing towards it. About Rs two crore will be spent at the village in around four years,“ he said.

Jani said that the village had excellent infrastructure on several counts and hence was the obvious choice from the Padra taluka. “It has a modern primary school and a good public health center apart from other infrastructure.BAPS has also contributed to the village,“ he added.

Though not a part of the Smart Village plan, the pond in the village will also be developed. Jani said that Pramukh Swami Maharaj used to swim in the pond as a child.

“He even won competitions against others. We have heard the details from elders of the village who are unfortunately not alive now,“ Jani said.
